After the sudden death of her husband, Sister T carried out his vision to open an orphanage in 1998 and then a discipleship training center in 2012. Today over 200 children have been cared for at the Children’s Home. More than 20 of them went on to graduate from seminaries and now serve in Myanmar and Yunnan, China. Working with a few local churches, she has started mission work, pastoring and hosting children ministries in upper Myanmar. “When my children were young, my whole day was spent taking care of them. I would feed them, clothe them and have them play with other little ones in our apartment complex. My days were very busy, but sweet. I also somehow found time to squeeze in my prayers to Allah, five times a day. As the saying goes, ‘The days are long but the years are short.’ Now my children are in school most of the day. After getting them ready and dropping them off for school, I get to spend my “school hours” during the weekdays visiting friends and family, taking a walk in the park, and praying to Allah without interruption. On the weekends, the kids are involved in extracurricular classes like badminton and piano. The weekends are busy, but the days are sweet as I watch my children enjoy playing with friends.”

“I divorced my husband several years ago. I do not need a man in my life to take care of me. I am perfectly capable of taking care of myself. In Islam, you’re not supposed to get divorced, but some people, like me, still do it. I am looked down upon in the community and am seen as a bad person. I don’t care though. I like the freedom I have given myself by divorcing my husband. I work hard and am proud of the way that I am able to take care of myself.”
How could we pray?
Pray for those who are shunned or shamed by the Hui community because of their decisions or lifestyle. Pray they will have an experience like the Samaritan woman at the well.
“Spring is here, and I am finishing the planting of all my crops. The work gets harder every year, and I am not able to work as hard as when I was younger. Most of what we grow just supports our family throughout the year. My son and daughter-in-law are off in the city trying to make enough money to support all of us. My wife and I watch our grandson each day. He is three now and very active. We have a hard time keeping up with him. Ramadan comes this year during the growing season. I am going to try and work the fields and fast every day. It will be hard. I am getting old, and I need as many good works as possible to get to heaven.”
How could we pray?
1. Pray for families that are separated as children go off to the city to find jobs.
2. Pray they will experience God’s blessing in the city and bring it back to their families and villages.

GGCC has had a “missional church” theme for many years. In order for the adoption of the Hui in Myanmar to be successful at GGCC, members will need to understand and feel God’s burden for the nations, particularly for the unengaged and unreached peoples (UUPG). Whether that is to pray, or finance, or go on short-term or long-term mission trips, pray that members will have God’s heart for the nations. Pray that the churches will begin to make connections with the Hui people group.
