Myanmar (formerly Burma), est. pop.54 mill., is a Southeast Asian nation of more than 100 ethnic groups, bordering India, Bangladesh, China, Laos and Thailand. It is the largest country in mainland Southeast Asia. Yangon (formerly Rangoon), the country’s largest city, is home to bustling markets, numerous parks and lakes, and the towering, gilded Shwedagon Pagoda, which contains Buddhist relics and dates to the 6th century. Although Buddhism (83%) is the official religion, the military claims that there is freedom of worship. Christianity has 8%, but none reported within the estimated 127,000 Hui people recorded. Hui people, originally from Yunnan China, are linked to the Islamic faith based on tradition and culture.
How could we pray?
Pray for the Christian churches to reach out to the Hui people group. With the present political climate, people in Myanmar (Hui included) are living in fear and concern. Pray for safety and that Hui people will come seeking for Jesus.
